Azul Zulu® now Certified with Red Hat JBoss EAP 6 on Windows

Azul Systems, Inc, (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, today announced that Zulu 7, Azul’s commercialized build of OpenJDK that is compatible and compliant with the Java SE 7 standard, is certified with Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) 6 for deployments on Microsoft Windows 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012 operating systems. Red Hat JBoss EAP 6 drives Java workloads in the cloud as part of JBoss xPaaS services for OpenShift.

Red Hat JBoss EAP 6 is a high-performance, low-footprint, easy-to-manage solution designed to help enterprises develop and deploy applications across on-premise, private and public clouds. Enterprises can now deploy JBoss EAP 6 on a fully tested and certified, 100% open source Java SE 7 OpenJDK distribution with world-class 24×7 production support available from Azul. Zulu 7 offers the following advantages:

  • 100% open source, free to download and commercialized version of OpenJDK, verified using the OpenJDK Technology Compatibility Kit (TCK) for Java SE 7 in addition to Azul’s robust stress and load testing
  • Runs on Windows Server, Windows client, and multiple Linux distributions, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server, CentOS and Ubuntu
  • Fully supports virtualized deployments using VMware, Hyper-V and KVM
  • Enterprise support options available via Zulu Enterprise (Premium support offering including ten-year support lifespan)

Zulu is ideal for companies who have key applications running on various versions of Java, even older versions such as Java 6, and have a need for cost-effective, high-quality ongoing support. Major versions of Java are supported for ten years from initial General Availability (for example in the case of Java 6, Zulu Enterprise support contracts will be available through 2024). The availability of long-term support enables Java-based businesses to migrate entirely on their schedule.

“Many organizations will welcome an alternative source for enterprise Java support that fits their own update schedule. In effect, Zulu offers enterprises breathing space, and is commercially appealing due to Azul’s 15 years of supporting high-end Java deployments,” said John Abbott, Distinguished Analyst, 451 Research.

“One of the benefits of open source is customer choice,” said Mike Piech, general manager, Middleware, Red Hat. “To help customers get the most out of Red Hat JBoss Middleware, we work closely with technology companies like Azul that provide powerful and complementary solutions. Azul has embraced this notion of customer choice by certifying Zulu 7 on JBoss EAP 6, and we look forward to continued collaboration with Azul as a key member of the Red Hat JBoss Middleware ecosystem.”

Scott Sellers, CEO of Azul Systems, said: “Zulu enables companies to run their Java applications their way, in their chosen environment and on their time-table of version evolution. Red Hat JBoss EAP users now have the option to deploy a commercially supported distribution of OpenJDK on Windows OSs.”
