It’s Official. Azul Has Been Re-Elected to the JCP Executive Committee. Gil Tene’s Back for Another Term

Nov 12, 2014 | 3 MIN READ

We just heard the news this morning — from a link on the JCP website: http://bit.ly/1unMtm2. Azul Systems has been re-elected to the executive committee of the Java Community Process (JCP EC, in short.)

Now in its fifteenth year, the JCP describes itself as “the mechanism for developing standard technical specifications for Java technology.”

This year, there were 8 Ratified and 5 Elected Seats open for election. All those who won Elected Seats will serve a one year term. The newly elected EC Members will take their seats on Tuesday, 25 November 2014.

So, what has Gil Tene had to say that resonated with the Java Community? A few clues can be found in an extract from his pre-election position statement:

“Since first being elected to the JCP Executive Committee in 2011, Azul has been an active EC member, where it has been an active contributor in directing and formulating key elements of the rewriting and reformulating of the JCP’s process and structure under JSR358 (aka JCP.next). With the rules for the JCP literally being re-written as part of this JSR, Azul has taken strong positions on protecting community rights, access to technology, and the role of individual Java developers. Azul has specifically taken the position that the Java community process should be largely influenced by the developers that consume and use the technology standards produced, with voting rights secured for all members and not limited to the companies that define and form those standards. Azul is also particularly focused on continuing to improve and ensure long-term community access to key enabling JSR technologies, including the TCKs for the platform SE and EE JSRs.

We’d like to offer our congratulations to Freescale, Gemalto M2M GmbH, Goldman Sachs, MicroDoc, SAP, Software AG, TOTVS and V2COM as well as ARM Inc., Hazelcast, Inc., Werner Keil and Geir Magnusson, Jr.
