O’Reilly OSCON 2014: A quick look back

O’Reilly OSCON 2014: A quick look back

Jul 24, 2014 | 2 MIN READ

We’ve always enjoyed our time at OSCON — a great venue, great city, and lots of interesting conversations. For us this year was particularly significant — for the first time we had a 100% open source product to discuss.  Zulu is Azul’s build of OpenJDK — supports Java SE 8, SE 7, and SE 6, and runs on Windows desktops and servers, many Linux distros, and on the Mac as well. Visit the Zulu Download page to get a copy for yourself.

We couldn’t think of a better way to end the event (aside from teardown in the exhibit hall) than to see yet another stellar and compelling presentation by Tricia Gee.  Her presentations are highly technical, extremely fast-paced, and absolutely compelling.  It’s great to see someone set unreasonable expectations (like compressing a one-hour talk into 40 minutes plus Q and A — and she did.) If you missed her OSCON talk you can access “Rapid Application Prototyping with Java and MongoDB” on Slideshare.

We’re already starting to plan for next year, when OSCON will be back in Portland July 20-24.
