Azul Systems® and Gil Tene, CTO and Co-Founder, Named “JCP Member of the Year”

Azul Systems®, the award-winning leader in Java runtime scalability, today announced that Azul and its CTO and Co-Founder Gil Tene have been named Java Community Process (JCP) Member of the Year. The award recognizes the corporate or individual member who has made the most positive impact on the Java community in the past year.  Azul and Mr. Tene were awarded the JCP Participant of the Year designation at the JavaOne 2013 conference, held this week in San Francisco.

A longtime and active member of the Java community, Mr. Tene has been building Java technology-based products since 1995. He has pioneered many of Azul’s award-winning technologies, including its Continuously Concurrent Compacting Collector (C4), Java Virtualization, Elastic Memory, and various managed runtime and systems stack technologies that combine to deliver the industry’s most scalable and robust Java platforms.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this award, especially in a field full of other talented, deserving nominees,” said Mr. Tene. “I’m glad to see Azul’s and my personal efforts to help shape the future of the JCP recognized. We will continue to work to evolve the Java roadmap and to advocate for securing long term community access to key Java technologies as part of the Java Community Process.”

“We are honored and delighted to see this recognition of Gil’s efforts on behalf of the global Java community,” said Scott Sellers, Azul Systems president and CEO. “Gil is a passionate advocate for Java, a compelling and popular speaker, and his amazing innovation and creativity significantly contribute to the evolution of Java and the JVM.”
