Azul Zing Delivers Speed and Scalability for NetDocuments Search

Azul Systems, the award-winning leader in Java runtime scalability, today announced that NetDocuments® has successfully deployed Azul Zing™ within its next-generation Apache-Solr™-based platform.  Zing delivers a performance boost to Solr’s near real-time search capabilities and eliminates unacceptable application pauses. NetDocuments can now deliver faster page rendering and search results, ultimately ensuring a better overall user experience for its customers.

“Obtaining fast search results is critical for our customers, who require instant access to documents to run their businesses effectively,” said Mou Nandi, search engineer and architect at NetDocuments. “Zing delivered the consistent response times we required to make our migration to Apache Solr successful, and ultimately allowed our online service to deliver a great experience for our customers.”

After migrating to Apache Solr, NetDocuments’ beta testing revealed long, unpredictable pauses during searches — a direct result of the platform’s underlying Java infrastructure. In fact, the Java platform, or JVM, required pauses of up to a full minute to “garbage collect” unused information in memory. NetDocuments selected Azul’s Zing to eliminate this performance issue and deliver a more consistent and nearly instantaneous search experience for its customers. After a five-minute installation (with no changes required to the application), Zing eliminated all pauses on the first test. In addition, Zing provided faster compilation for increased throughput and a tool for complete visibility into Java applications, enabling NetDocuments’ operations teams to identify and resolve potential problems in a timely manner.

“SaaS companies like NetDocuments, for whom fast response times are critical to customer experience and retention, can’t afford any compromises in application performance,” said Scott Sellers, CEO and founder of Azul Systems. “With Zing, NetDocuments can continue to deliver the fast search results its customers have come to demand and expect and scale the system rapidly without worry. Zing truly is a game-changing technology innovation that is quickly setting an industry benchmark.”
