Latest Release of Azul Zing Extends Cassandra Performance Lead

News Highlights:

  • New Zing release 15.09 includes specific optimizations for Cassandra workloads, resulting in up to 50x improvement in worst-case latency and 25% improvement in throughput compared to legacy JVMs.
  • Zing release 15.09 adds support for Docker, enabling the benefits of Docker portability and deployment flexibility combined with Zing’s pauseless operation for Java applications.
  • New Zing images also now available on Amazon AWS for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Amazon Linux and Ubuntu.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., October 20, 2015Azul Systems (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, today announced the general availability of Zing release 15.09. This new release of Zing®, Azul’s highly scalable Java Virtual Machine (JVM) designed for Java-based applications and systems that require consistent low latency and high scalability, includes specific optimizations for Apache Cassandra deployments and numerous other performance enhancements. Zing 15.09 also adds full support for Docker, enabling the benefits of Docker portability and deployment flexibility combined with Zing’s pauseless operation for Java applications. Azul also announced the availability of images on Amazon AWS integrating Zing 15.09 with industry-leading Linux distributions including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Amazon Linux and Ubuntu.

“Like many Java-based applications, the performance and latency profile of Apache Cassandra can be impacted by Java garbage collection and other Java runtime issues,” said Matt Aslett, research director, data platforms and analytics, 451 Research. “Azul’s Zing JVM provides a compelling alternative to the constant performance tuning and complex workarounds required with other JVMs.”

Scott Sellers, CEO of Azul Systems, said: “We are pleased to announce Zing release 15.09, which has many improvements in performance and full support for Docker containers. This new Zing release shows significant performance improvements for many Java applications, and we are particularly enthusiastic about the optimizations made for Apache Cassandra, beating legacy JVMs on throughput by up to 25% and slashing worst-case latencies by up to 50x. By providing the industry’s best Java runtime for Cassandra plus more flexible development and deployment options via Docker, we continue to extend our lead with Zing where stable, predictable Java performance is essential.”
