Saks.com Selects Azul Systems® to Power its High Performance Web Portal

Mountain View, Calif. – February 04, 2010 – Azul Systems, the award-winning leader in enterprise server appliances for business-critical Java™ applications, today announced that saks.com, the online arm of luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue, has enhanced the consistency and availability of its website through the implementation of Azul Compute Appliances.

Saks.com’s 26% comparable store sales increase in the third fiscal quarter ended October 31, 2009 was facilitated by the improved consistency and availability of its online store. The deployment of Azul Compute Appliances has enabled saks.com to provide its customers a fast, consistent and seamless user experience, allowing visitors to focus on products and style without disruption.

In a recent Gomez Last Mile Internet Retailer Benchmark, saks.com posted the best rating in high broadband availability tests. For the month of November, Gomez reported 96.90% availability for the saks.com site which was approximately 7 points above the average rate for other top retailers. The Gomez Last Mile network provides a “real-world” load test, enabling organizations to optimize the overall performance of their application and website.

“Azul’s unique approach to application scalability is unmatched,” said Ron Cavallo, Director of Infrastructure, for Saks Fifth Avenue. “With the Azul Java solution we saw tremendous improvements in application performance and response time consistency in our production website.”

“The success achieved by Saks Fifth Avenue is another testament to how our technology is enabling organizations to overcome their Java application challenges,” said Scott Sellers, President and CEO of Azul Systems. “Predictable response times and a rich user experience are critical measures of success for online businesses and web portals. Our breakthrough technology allows organizations to achieve their business goals by delivering a much better end-user online experience while dramatically lowering infrastructure costs.”

Azul Compute Appliances enable business-critical Java-based applications to achieve unprecedented levels of scalability, throughput and response times without the complex setup, management, or high operational costs associated with traditional computing models. Designed and optimized for heavy Java workloads such as web portals, business analytics, trading platforms, and financial and risk analysis applications, Azul appliances eliminate performance issues caused by Java-related challenges such as garbage collection pauses and memory limitations.
