Established as its own credit card brand in 2005, Rakuten Card Co. Ltd. is a Japanese credit card company formerly known as Rakuten Credit Inc.

Challenge

Previous app server had critical CVE bugs, memory leaks, sporadic errors, and expensive slow support. Needed cloud-native migration.

Solution

Migrated to Payara Server Enterprise Oct 2017. Moved to 100% cloud-native Docker containers Oct 2019.

Result

Zero production issues in 3 years. Zero service stops. Reduced resource footprint, faster deployment, better performance.

Payara is the de-facto middleware at Rakuten Card. We’ve found it wonderful to use, even for new hires – with Payara leveraging developers’ existing skill sets so no retraining is required.
