Azul Systems® Extends Zulu™ to Support Java 6 and Major Linux Distributions

Azul Systems®, Inc. (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, today announced that Zulu, its freely-available version of OpenJDK™, now supports both Java 6 and Java 7 on Linux and Windows-based deployments. Java developers, system administrators and end users now have a reliable, rigorously tested, and 100% open source compliant implementation of the Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE) for all their Linux, Windows and Cloud deployments.

Zulu now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Ubuntu Desktop and Server, and CentOS Linux distributions, with support for additional distributions planned in the future based on community feedback. Azul previously announced the support of Zulu on Windows Azure, and today is announcing additional support for on-premise Windows deployments. The specific versions of operating system, hypervisor, and Cloud environments supported can be found here.

Azul also announced expanded Java community support with the introduction of Zulu Community Forums. Azul’s forums are designed to be a high-value resource for Java programmers, DevOps personnel, product managers and people interested in extending the reach of other powerful open source technologies that depend upon either Java or the JVM.

Zulu forums will be moderated by Azul and community members, and content will range from deeply technical materials to industry news. Membership on the Zulu Community Forums is free, and the first 250 people to register will be able to choose either a Zulu launch T-shirt or a $10 Starbucks gift card*.

“Azul has always been dedicated to Java and the Java community in providing best-of-breed solutions for Java enterprise developers and users,” said Scott Sellers, President and CEO of Azul Systems. “Today’s announcement of expanded platform support for Zulu is all about providing enterprises and Java users a compelling new choice of Java platform that is freely available, 100% open source based on OpenJDK, multi-platform, and standards compliant. Zulu users gain all the availability and flexibility advantages of a pure open source solution combined with the stability, reliability and peace of mind of a fully supported, enterprise-class product.”

Linux and Windows-based downloads of Zulu are available immediately. For more information or to download and install Zulu, go to https://www.azulsystems.com/products/zulu.
