Azul Systems® Selected by Circuit City, LimeWire, and CitiStreet

Mountain View, Calif. – April 2, 2008 – Azul Systems, the award-winning innovator of server appliances that deliver compute and memory resources as a shared network service, today announced that leading e-commerce clients such as Circuit City, LimeWire, and CitiStreet are teaming with Azul to meet the demands of users by providing richer media content, more advanced functionality, and delivering outstanding Quality of Service (QoS).

Azul Systems’ solutions have proven successful in the retail space with Circuit City, who has achieved greater server infrastructure utilization by partnering with Azul. Circuit City was searching for a solution to handle increasing holiday web traffic oncircuitcity.com while simultaneously reducing user response times. Since deploying on Azul, Circuit City has delivered fast and consistent user response times even on the busiest retail day of the year, “Black Friday.”

“The unique approach of Azul’s server appliance delivers unmatched scalability to support dramatic growth and performance during the peak holiday season,” said Brian Bradley, senior vice president, multi-channel for Circuit City Stores, Inc. “With Azul Systems’ appliances, we are able to increase web portal application throughput by 18.75X and reduce worst case response times by 6.83X. Achieving these extraordinary results while lowering hosting costs is a testament to Azul’s innovation.”

Fast and easy-to-use, and running on both Gnutella and BitTorrent P2P networks, LimeWire is the world’s most popular P2P file-sharing application. Compatible with nearly every current operating system, LimeWire is open-source and distributed under the terms of the GPL. “As we began to build the LimeWire Store in early 2007, we knew that with over 60 million active users of LimeWire Client that application scalability, data center footprint and cost were our top issues. Few new ventures need to handle thousands of hits per second on their first day of operation, and we couldn’t afford to stumble,” said Jason Pelzer, project manager of the LimeWire Store. “Azul Systems’ appliances worked with our existing data center resources, improved manageability, and boosted our Java application performance both in terms of scalability and reduced response times without consuming additional data center floor space or power.”

With Azul Systems’ Vega 2 Compute Appliance, CitiStreet significantly increased their business-critical application and improved their end-user web experience on their sites, while reducing the number of host servers needed by 6X. CitiStreet sites service 14 million customers and during the busiest month the portal achieved 35 million page views from 4.5 million unique visitors. The company’s business application needed to overcome technical challenges relating to Java garbage collection pauses and scaling multi-threaded applications. “Azul Systems’ appliances delivered unique functionality that eliminated garbage collection pauses and made our applications perform consistently even under load.” said Barry Strasnick, CitiStreet CIO. “CitiStreet has been in production with the Azul’s appliances since August 2007.  Since that time, we have not had to restart the appliances at all. With Azul, we’ve reduced our server counts by 6X and yet achieved very high performance.”
