Azul Systems Hosts Engineers of the Future!

Azul Systems, the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, will be hosting a Devoxx4Kids engineering workshop on Sunday March 29, 10.00AM – 12.00AM, at its Sunnyvale offices (1173 Borregas Ave, 94089-1306). The aim of the morning is to inspire the young engineers of the future by allowing them to hack Minecraft, which has over 100 million users, by reprogramming Raspberry Pi-based systems.

The session will be run by Mark Pavlyukovskyy from Piper, a new start up that has released a toolbox for budding engineers. By leveraging the popularity of Minecraft, Piper hopes to encourage players to build their own electronics.

Piper is a wooden toolbox that a child constructs. It comes with a Raspberry Pi 2 Linux board, a 7 inch LCD display, a power bank and an assortment of electronics. Once the child has assembled the kit, he or she enters an adventure map in Minecraft. To overcome the challenges in the game, the user needs to build physical hardware additions to the Pi using breadboards, wires and electronic components. Interactive feedback is given to help the youngster correctly build the electronics and once completed a whole new world of power ups and abilities become available.

Mark Pavlyukovskyy, CEO and Co-Founder of Piper, said: “Devoxx4Kids is a great way to not only show kids cool ways to play and experiment with technology, but also allows young makers to meet and learn from experienced engineers as well as peers.”

Scott Sellers, CEO and Co-Founder of Azul Systems, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting this Devoxx4Kids event.  It is a great way for budding engineers to learn about programming and electronics in a fun, supportive environment.”

Piper is aimed at anyone from 5 to 75 years old to provide them with a platform to start building. For the session being run at Azul’s offices, parents are required to stay at the facility throughout the workshop.  To register follow the attached link: https://www.meetup.com/Devoxx4Kids-BayArea/events/221056961/?a=ra1_te
